Hello there! My name is Jay Plumb, and I’ve been in sales for quite a while. I am married with two boy, and my wife stays home with them. Sales is not where I expected life to take me, but boy am I glad that it did.
Back in 2010 I was five years into what I thought was going to be the job that would take me to retirement. I was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. It was a good job. Many people really would like to have it. The thing was though, even working six days a week, I was bringing money in the high fifties. I could have lived with that, but there was absolutely no down time.
My number one rule for success in life is to find a way to beat the previous years income. I have been successful every year of my life except one, my last year at the post office. I had to make a decision. I could either be fine with the relatively decent living I was making, or I could try and find something better.
About seven years ago I took stock of what my most successful friends and family did for a living. It seemed that many of the really successful people I knew were in sales. I did some research and decided that it is something that I would like to try.
I started at a call center where they told our training class of 14 that maybe two or three of us would have what it takes to succeed there. Boy were they right! I was one of two people hired without a sales background. I didn’t get the job when I was interviewed the first time. I didn’t give up. I went back and got another interview. I figured if it’s a sales job I was after, than I’d better not let being rejected deter me.
They were right too. By the time I hit a year, I was one of two that made it. I was never afraid that I wouldn’t be one of the ones who would make it. I was putting in the effort to get better on my own time. You must be committed. I know how to succeed in sales. I am a top producer, but it didn’t come natural. I believe that is good for you, because I can teach you step by step how to get to where you need to be.
